Olesia Malashenko among top Young Players in Europe
 

Olesia Malashenko occupied the seventh place in the FIBA Europe Young Women’s Player of the Year voting. She gained 33 expert votes as well as 3761 public votes.

The 18-year-old forward from French Arras was the only Ukrainian representative in the vote. Olesia Malashenko shone brightly at the U18 European Championship in the summer of 2009. She averaged 18.7 points, 13.8 rebounds and 1.9 blocks per game in Sodertalje, Sweden.

Alba Torrens from Spain became the Young Player of the Year in Europe.

Czech Republic send Ukraine packing

Ukraine failed to post a single victory at the EuroBasket 2009. They came up short against Czech Republic today and wrapped up their campaign at the fourth spot in the preliminary Group A.

Ukraine had their backs against the wall entering today’s clash. They grabbed the lead early and maintained it throughout the major part of the encounter. But some unforced errors late in regulation sank the team as they lost the vital battle 77:79.

Ukraine unable to match Spain

Ukraine suffered the second straight defeat at the 2009 EuroBasket in Latvia. Earlier today they lost to Spain 59:85 slipping at 0-2 record in Group A.

Ukraine lost the starting frame by just two points but could not threaten their opponents in the second period. Spaniards eased to a 13-point lead at halftime and never looked back en route to the second consecutive victory at the tournament.

Ukraine lose in EuroBasket opener

Ukraine opened their EuroBasket 2009 campaign with a bitter loss to Slovak Republic in preliminary Group A. The teams clashed in Liepaja today and Ukraine suffered a 55:77 defeat.

Ukraine failed to match Slovakia in the first half losing it by 26 points. Our team gained the tempo after the big break but it was too late to save the encounter.

Ukraine Women’s National Team secured their 2009 EuroBasket appearance even despite a narrow 45:48 loss to Germany in Saarlouis today. The teams kept it close throughout the first half and the visitors trailed by just one point at halftime 25:26. Ukraine limited the hosts to 6 points in the third frame and ran away to a 7-point lead with one quarter remaining. Ukraine snatched a narrow 67:61 win over Bulgaria to improve at 3-0 record on top of Group A of the 2009 EuroBasket Additional Qualifying Round. Our team will travel to Saarlouis to take on Germany on January 16.

Olexandra Gorbunova tallied 20 points and 9 rebounds to lead Ukraine to the second win in the Additional Qualifying Round to 2009 EuroBasket. Ukraine cruised past Germany 73:47 in the “Meridian”. The Ukrainian Women’s National Team made another step towards qualification to the 2009 EuroBasket to be held in Latvia. Yesterday a Volodymyr Briukhovetskyy team visited Bulgaria to open the Additional Qualifying Round in Group A.

Ukraine take another shot at 2009 EuroBasket
 

Ukraine Women’s National Team will play through the EuroBasket 2009 Additional Qualifying Round for the chance to advance to the main continental competition next year.

Yesterday the draw for the Additional Round was held in Riga. Our team got into Pool A together with Bulgaria and Germany. The best team from the Pool will qualify for the Final Round of EuroBasket 2009.

Dramatic clash turns victorious for Ukraine
 

Ukraine kept their 2009 EuroBasket hopes alive as they held off dangerous Israel at home yesterday. Our team needed an overtime to score an emphatic 90:85 victory and claimed the top spot in Group A. The destiny of Ukraine is now in the hands of Israel and Lithuania as they play against Great Britain and Germany respectively on Saturday.

Ukraine experienced a major setback in their 2009 EuroBasket pursuit yesterday losing to Germany in Berlin. Taking care of German team back in Kiev earlier in the competition Ukrainian side however did not manage to rebound after a bitter loss to Lithuania earlier in the week to drop the battle 65:74.

Ukraine get surprised by Lithuania in Kiev

Lithuania snapped Ukraine's 3-game winning streak at the 2009 EuroBasket Qualificaiton. The Baltic team secured a hard-fought 73:68 win away from home to improve their chances of reaching the European Championship in Riga next year. Ukraine slipped to 4-2 record and the third spot in Group A.

Ukraine win in Cardiff
 

Ukraine celebrated their 4th win at the 2009 EuroBasket Qualification edging Great Britain in Cardiff.

Olexandra Gorbunova came up with another pivotal performance tallying 26 points and 7 rebounds to propel Ukraine to an 80:73 victory.

The visitors looked good throughout the first half and built a 13-point advantage at halftime. The margin grew to 21 points in the third frame however it was not the end of the story.

Ukraine lull Great Britain in Kiev
Ukraine opened their Eurobasket-2009 Qualifying Round campaign with a hard-fought 59:54 win over the Great Britain. The teams met today in Kiev to give a start to action in Group A. It was the first Division A experience for Great Britain as they got promoted last year.

Ukrainian Basketball Federation Presidium is to hold its next meeting on November 22.
 
The main issue on the agenda is the appointing of the Head coach for both men’s and women’s National Teams.

Ukraine Women’s National Team wrapped up their mini-tournament against Israel with a win and a loss in the last two games of the 3-contest matchup.
 
Following the 84:78 overtime win in game 1, Ukraine defeated the visitors once again in game 2, this time with more confidence – 74:60.
